Nutra-Vision provides nutrients needed to maintain eye health. There are a number of factors that compromise eye health. Specifically, risk factors for Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) include chronic exposure to sunlight, smoking, and macular pigmentation. AMD is characterized by a degeneration of the retina and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) in the central part of the eye called the macular region.
AMD affects over 14 million people in U.S. and is believed to be responsible for most of the permanent blindness in people over 65 years old. Loss of central vision affects reading, driving the car and recognizing faces. Unfortunately, there is no cure for AMD. The efficacy of Lutein for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has been documented in several clinical trials.
Another major concern is the development of cataracts, or white, opaque clouding that appears on the eye lens and is formed by damage to the proteins. Approximately four million Americans suffer from some form of vision impairment because of the cataracts. Most of the population over 60 years of age displays cataract formation. Apart from aging, some of the other contributing factors are exposure to toxins, ultraviolet light, injury, diabetes and heredity.
Loss of sight is probably one of the biggest health concerns for the aging population. As we age, our eyes suffer damage from excessive oxidative stress, pollution, and improper diet deficient in nutrients that are essential for maintaining healthy eyes. Our body can not manufacture some of these healthy nutrients, especially Lutein\Zeaxanthin. Therefore, supplementation of these carotenoids should be considered.
